On Friday, April 24, 2009 New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band was joined by legendary American singer/songwriter Pete Seeger, his grandson Tao, and their band for a very special recording session. Recorded a week before Pete's 90th birthday celebration, this video shows a man who is still moved by the power of song.

"In addition to being America's best-loved folk singer and an untiring environmentalist, Pete Seeger is a national treasure. He has been at the forefront of the labor movement, the struggle for Civil Rights, the peace and anti-war movements, and the fight for a clean world. He has been a beacon of hope for millions of people all over the world..." (from the Pete Seeger appreciation page - http://www.peteseeger.net)

Since opening its doors to the public in 1961, it has been the mission of Preservation Hall to showcase the national treasures of traditional New Orleans jazz music. Forty-eight years later, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band still represents the best opportunity for music fans the world over to experience the planet's happiest music. These unforgettable, multi-generational players proudly carry on the musical traditions passed forward from the most prolific jazz heritage on earth. http://www.preservationhall.com

  • whats with the camera lense? was it like a hidden camera or something?

  • l think l am lucky for my age as my father put me onto pete when l was a lad "1964" and l have not looked back since, l dont agree with all the man has to say but he has the right to say what he wants and l respect that plus the man made me think on a lot of subjects and l have not heard a singer yet that has done that to me,so thanks Mr Seeger. Long may you sing.

  • I keep going back and watching this...over and over. Someone described it as "Shivers"...I agree!

  • Tao was the co-musical director last night at Madison Square Garden and every time he got a chance, he was picking up his banjo in just backing them up, even when he didn't have a microphone.

  • What a musician Tao is!

Can't get any better than this!

  • Shivers down my spine good!
