As 3 years has passed since my previous post to which you replied, I just wanted to state the current situation and any changes since then in Turkey.

I am not a disabled person but feel empathy with such people. The far much better standards of disabled people in the U.S. greatly affected me. I wish one day I would contribute some way to disabled people in Turkey.

And no, not as a PM or deputy! :)

@YTMrVulcan I think you misunderstood me. I never believe a disabled deputy is necessary. I just tried to stress that political parties in Turkey have a disabled person elected in each election just to exploit votes of disabled people without doing anything for them. I am not standing behind this. Nonetheless, due to the background of Safak Pavey and her envisaged projects, I think she can greatly contribute in solving problems of disabled people and raising awareness among Turkish people.

@mg428 Unfortunately, your comment seems incomplete. Assuming that this is what you wanted to say...I don't think that a disabled deputy is necessary.

We only need the people who can pave the way for the disabled - in all manners of speaking - to see the need for them to do so.

elected. In June 2011 AKP won the elections with a 50% majority. This is the third consecutive time the said party wins the election. In my opinion, they just ostensibly nominate a disabled person to exploit the votes of disabled citizens. By the way, in this elections Safak Pavey, a disabled person and an ex-public affairs officer of UNHCR left her position and been elected from the main opposition party, namely CHP. She has some significant projects but I don't think governement would support.

@YTMrVulcan Good question. I think awareness should be raised especially among non-disabled people. Because only those people can pave (!) -no pun intended- the way for a better future of disabled people. Relative associations should compel the government to enact new legislation. Unfortunately, since my first post 3 years ago, I believe nothing has changed in Turkey in this regard. The party constituting the government and ruling the country, namely AKP, always ensures that a disabled deputy is
