    Garner's lived quite a life...grew up dirt poor...physically abused by his step mom...abandoned by his father...homeless and on his own as a teen...nearly killed TWICE in Korea...screwed ROYALLY by Jack Warner (his stand in made more than he did on Maverick!)....married a woman 2 weeks after meeting her in 1956 and they're still married and head over heels is love to this day...

    I always liked James Garner. I think he was the perfect choice for playing Jim Rockford in The Rockford Files

    The same situation happened to Edd Kookie Byrnes from 77 Sunset Strip. He was signed on when he was an unknown. He signed a long contract for like $12,000 a year, which probably sounded like big money to him at the time. Even at the height of his fame on "77" he was still only making the same minimal salary
