if you can't be bothered to pay for sibelius get MuseScore. its free and basically exactly the same

@bzeliotis Yes, there is. First, House Styles > Engraving Rules > Barlines > Default Barline Type and then check out Plugins > Composing Tools > Draw Free Rhythm Barline.

Is there an easy way to write scales using notes without stems. I find Sibelius is not user friendly when it comes to writing extracts for a music book. It insists you write according to a time signature and dictates how many notes will be in a line. is there any way to get round these standardisations?

how do we edit the velocity of each notes? and do you have any easier way to insert VST plugin in Sibelius?

You can individually edit the velocity of each note in the Live Playback properties. Also Sibelius 5 is a VST host so you can use any VST easily by simply directing Sibelius to your VST folder on your computer.

It's still possible to get Sib 4, but it's the same price as Sib 5, so you might as well get the latest version.
