This is a movie of the relativistic Kelvin-Helmholtz instability problem in Beckwith (2011). In this problem the white regions move to the right at 0.5c while the black region region moves left at 0.5c making for a relative Lorentz factor of 2.29. A small perturbation is made at the shear layer to set off the instability. This tests the ability of the Lagrangian tracer to follow relativistic flows. It also illustrates the mixing induced by the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. This simulation is 512x1024 and goes out to t=10 with eps=0.1 and CFL=0.4. This was done using the relativistic MHD mode of WOMBAT at the University of Manitoba by Paul Edmon.
