HiDef: Fostoria, PA & Altoona's Brickyard Crossing 8-16-2011

After my morning visit to Cassandra, PA and some lunch, I decided to do a little exploring east of Altoona. The radio was very quiet except for all the roadway workers copying authorities. During the lull, I did manage to catch 1 westbound intermodal at Fostoria, PA.

After I left Fostoria, I went to Tipton and Tyrone but unfortunately saw nothing. I headed back towards Altoona. Finally I started hearing signals being called out again so I set up at the brickyard crossing which is just west of Alto tower and CP Slope.

With 23W blocking my view I couldn't even get the engine numbers off of 23M who managed to sneak up the hill without me knowing it. 23W would be held at CP MG to wait for the 23M to cross over to main 3 before continuing west.

The sun is now getting low and so is my light. I hear Alto telling the 13G to stay east of CP Works to get head end helpers. He would also take on help at the rear. I decided to make the 13G the last one of the day.

As 13G grinds uphill, a helper set slips by on main 1 heading back toward Alto. 13G's helpers passing under the former Pennsylvania signal bridge marks the end of my day. Enjoy!
