Fire was blazing by about 1:30 a.m. St Paul's was built in 1893. This neo-gothic stone church was the soul of the village of Aylmer. Hopefully it will be restored to its original character. The parish was plagued by fire three times in the past. The first church built on the site was destroyed by fire in 1892. In 1903 lightning struck the building, setting the roof on fire, resulting in substantial damage. The church was restored and consecrated in 1905.

  • wow seriously the person who did this deserve to go in jail for like and get torchured.. this is a 120 years old church and my 90 years old grand mother was batise here she married here.. this is (was) Aylmer's heart :(

  • No one is safe until the courts in this country start serving adequate justice through proper sentencing for crimes. Otherwise it is only a matter of time before homes in Aylmer are targeted with guaranteed fatalities.

  • wow, thats amazing ( not in a good way ) , you see the steaple collapse, what kind of sick person would burn down a church. and some poepl in some videos just stand there making jokes about it... what f*ing idiots !

  • You can hear some idiots laughing (0:35) just before the steeple collapsed. Where is the empathy for the congregation of St. Paul's and the people of Aylmer who loved that landmark? This event and the reaction to it just re-enforced my views on the desensitization of youth in Canada.

  • I can't get over this. I can't say I'm a religious man yet for some reason, I can't help but say I'm sad about this.. It was such a beautiful church. I walked past it many nights on my way home.. I do believe in a higher power and sometimes despite the fact I'm not a regular church goer, somehow I always felt a certain peace around that particular church. Seeing a charred stone shell on my way to work this morning hurt me deeply... I will miss it.

  • This is devastating... not just because it was a church, but because it was a beautiful, old building. Whoever did this is sick.
