First 5 California approved a contribution of up to $81.4 million earlier today to support the Healthy Families Program, which provides low-cost health insurance to low-income families not qualified for Medi-Cal. This funding has the potential to cover health care costs for more than 200,000 children ages 0-5 through June 2010.
State Commissioners voted to approve this contribution to Healthy Families after careful consideration of First 5 Californias current funding commitments. This vote reaffirms First 5 Californias long-standing commitment to protect the health and well-being of Californias youngest children so they enter school ready to succeed.
