World War II German Army Tribute Video

The following is a message I had recieved a few months ago here on youtube from a Mr. Salomon.


I was born in Rheine in 1935 and left with my family, arriving in New York on Sept. 2, 1939.

My father was drafted at age 16 in 1914 and fought in WWI in the German Army as a heavy machine gunner, winning the Iron Cross, First Class in the battle of Riga, where he was gassed. He was then moved to the Western Front after Russia stopped fighting in 1917 and fought untilNovember 11, 1918. The effects of the gas finally killed him in 1951. There were 200,000 Greman Jews who served in WWI and over 20,000 were KIA.with many more thousnads wounded and gassed. I still have my father''s medals and his service documents.

When I was in the Schnee Eifel three years ago, I visited the grave of Leutnant Freiderich Lengfeld of the 275th Inf. Reg. He died trying to save the life of a wounded American soldier of the 22nd Inf. Div. in the Huertgen Wilde Sau minefield on 12 November,1944.

Most German soldiers did their duty with bravery and fought the war fairly, though many were nothing more than war criminals in their actions on the Eastern Front and the killing of innocents, including Jews.

Your montage is well done and honors all those who fought and died for their country.

NOTE: My video is tribute to the honorable fighting soldiers of the German Military whose valor was abused and worthy for a better cause. Period.

This was originally a recruiting video I made for a "realism unit" I was involved with in the video game Red Orchestra, the clan does not exist anymore but I thought this video was good to have as a tribute to one of the fiercest armies of our time.

Unfortunately, it seems my video attracts alot of neo-nazi and anti-semitic people. For the record I do not agree with such views nor will I tolerate any of those type of beliefs in the comments. As a Canadian I always admired the Germans efficiency and hard work which was evidently obvious in their soldiers on the battlefield. Something I think we shared in battle despite British and Americas shadow...I'm no Nazi-lover by any means but even the SS soldiers (at least certain units) were unfaulteringly good, even though they were branded 'SS' many of the soldiers fought plainly for themselves and Germany, not Hitlers murderous cause, my friends Grandfather a testament to this.

I agree, the biggest show of German military honor and integrity was in North Africa with Rommel's "Afrika Corps" during WW2.

Forever remember Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Johannes Eugen Rommel and his Afrika Korps. He was a great general and it is disappointing to see his name stained by the horrors and crimes that the Nazi Party committed.

my great grandfather was in the SS, he was forced into the army and fought solely so he could finish his duty up and get back to his family. He served on the russian front for 3 years before being put in a POW camp for 2 years and then was able to get back to Austria, if it wasn't for his courage, I probably wouldn't be here today.
