I'm sitting in a room, for tape (1969)

note: I've decided to put this piece in this channel, even if Lucier is not a minimalist composer nor this is strictly a minimalist piece, because it's a wonderful example of "process music" (which is indeed also called sometimes "minimalist"), music that I love and which is very much in relationship with Reich's music.

  • What a profound ending. The piece as a whole is mesmerizing after 15 minutes.

  • If someone would have played me an excerpt from the last few minutes and asked me what had generated this sound, I definitely would not have guessed a recording of someone voice resonating in a room.
