Horse "Surgery"

So that peoples minds are put at rest the horse is under anasthetic and is not feeling any pain whatsoever. I would have thought the fact that the animal is not going absoloutely berserk would hilight the fact it is sedated. The horse, while beautiful is not an incredibly stoic animal.

It is often easier to geld a horse which is standing as in these young animals on occassion the testes haven't completely dropped yet. The thinking behind allowing the animal to remain standing is to aid with the process and remove the possibility of certain complications.

no u are correct. horses are gelded because they have different behaviors when they are stallions and geldings.

This is done to control animal temper. Bulls used to plow in farms are also gelded because you only need them to be strong and docile for that task. At least in my town they would use very mature bulls. They have had 'enough fun' already. Time to work for their beans.

Just try to force an aggressive bull into the plowing harness and you'll see...

@cyberjunky are you kidding? have you ever delt with a stud, different fields, ya easier said than done, so i guess we shouldnt fix our dogs or cats either. a stud will stop at NOTHING to get to a mare, they will run themselves to death if need be, and not to mention geldings make the best riding horses, the old saying, you tell a gelding you ask a mare and you talk things over with a stallion, well its true, god, read a book or go to a stud farm

why are people saying this is cruelty? so all the dogs and cats that are fixed is is cruel as well right, i mean come on, if you have never delt with a stud horse dont say anything, i have a mini stud, hes only 250lbs, and he is very hard to habdle, he has to be in an electric chain link fence if our mare is in heat, imagine a 1200lbs stud, no thanks, gelding them is way worth it.
