Oh my goodness...... I've been trying to improvise for over a year now and I seriously can't do it at all. I guess it just comes more easily to some than others? I guess you're one of those lucky few =)

Because what my friend says is that
vibrato is controlled by moving your abdominal muscles
and i dont know whether it;s true or not
but it seems like it doesnt work with me...:'(
Flute is very difficult indeed..
I wish I could play like you one day :')

Hello patrickstarfish21
I think about using the diaphragm and the chest to breath in and relax all for breathing out/playing the flute. About vibrato I think that I do it in my throat more than down in my diaphragm, definitely not with my abdominal muscles.
Those muscles are a heavy load plus the organs they are built around.

And think, the more mass has to be moved for vibrato, the slower it will get and the harder it will be to perform. Always be economic with powers when playing, otherwise you will get tired too soon or even damage yourself.
Best wishes

Hi Serious Flute Man, doesn't sound like an amateur ;-)
Thats great! But why do you use a metronome ?
