Apart from discovering that there are around 1.5 million different species of fungi, of which only about 5% have been officially classified, the first big lesson you learn is that it's worth looking a bit more closely at the ground, to see the amazing things that are going on down there. The second thing you learn is that not all mushrooms are brown - in fact the variety of colours is truly amazing.

This Fungus Foray was organised by Hedgerow Harvest at http://www.hedgerow-harvest.com/ The Head Forager is James Feaver, who certainly knows his fungi, and who also cooked us some very fine mushroom soup and then fried and served four different kinds of mushrooms, so we could taste the difference, so to speak.

You should also know that James and his dog Bramble are British Truffle Hunting Champions, and that truffles can sell for £180 a kilo.

No one died.
