  • I have troubles understanding why you'd want to create 80-90ies like games.

In that case it's better to move on to a more updated JAVA with more feats and cross platform support.

  • @codeinjection

Don't see where darkbasic has to do with 80-90's games. It supports up to shader model 3. So you can create some pretty decent looking games. Java may be more cross platform. But honestly I'm not really a fan of java. More of a C# guy. But I just make tutorials for a variety of things including java. :P

  • @raven67854 I have yet to see a "decent looking" darkbasic pro game, so if you could provide link/source with any game that has any form of complexity and detail quality you're more than welcome.

I'm not really a fan of JAVA but then again I'm not a fan of C# either, I'm not a fan of C# due to the pure egoism of being a win-only programming language and JAVA is like C#'s retarded little brother, it has the crossplatform support but it's not really useful for any kind of heavy load, ie games.

  • @codeinjection

To be honest most darkbasic games look horrible. But that's generally because nobody ever actually produces a fully fledged polished product with it. Has nothing to do with the language just that people never produce anything appealing. Do a google search for StarWraith. That guy builds those games in DBP now but used to make the older ones in darkbasic. Probably the best example of a decent game coded with darkbasic.

  • I've used DB last year and quite enjoyed it. However with the awesome Unity available, is there even any point to DB anymore? What does it have offer over any other tools available?

  • @BPBloodeye

Guess that really depends on personal preference. Both support dx9 so you can do the same thing with either of them. Though naturally Unity does have the cross platform advantage.
