  • Ahead in what. Subaru uses viscous coupling, and Audi uses torsen. You can argue that viscous couplings put the power where its needed better, but they wear out. The torsen is far more reliable.

Neither are really ideal for offroading in SUV's, and the subaru system, unless it is the sti which is a different system, over heats and wears out very fast on mud/snow when being pushed, ie rally. So how is Scubi ahead? Its another system, with pros and cons. The average driver wont see a difference

  • In rally they use a different system... And if you don't drive it hard it wont wear out. And the torsen in an Audi will last that long for sure, its just a set of gears, it will always outlast the engine/trans etc.

  • audi powaaaaa

  • I want a realworld comparison

  • AUDI-----NEVER FOLLOW The True Leader!

  • Also, to clear the differential issue.

There are 3 major categories of differentials.

Open diffs, which suck big time.

    Limited slip aka LSD.

    And locking diffs.

LSD fall in to major categories: Torque sensitive, like Torsen, Quaife, Haldex.

And speed sensitive - viscous and electronic differentials, or E-diffs, which basically use abs, speed sensors and an actuator to push the clutch plates.

  • @SuperleggeraVW

By mechanical differentials, I meant geared LSD type. Subaru uses geared LSD`s on the STI, and viscous on the regular models.

VAG only uses open differentials for the front and rear, they used LSD on the rear in the 80`s . An open differential is the cheapest, but shittiest way to transfer power to the wheels. It will always spin the wheel with the least resistance to friction.

  • subaru will always have the best sounding 4 cylinder, but i would much rather have the audi

  • Kadetem teraz!

  • @SuperleggeraVW I still always wondered how both work, and Google hasn't helped.

  • @tjohanson FACT: Sense>Bias. Anyone with a brain and soul knows it.

  • @Soulshreder Mechanical diffs can't compare with open diffs? Open diffs are mechanical, that makes no sense.

I'd don't care what VAG does, I put aftermarket torsens front and rear, so no more open diffs.

I think your missing too much information. Your confusing and mixing together types of diffs with marketing names of AWD.

Haldex is a clutch pack at the centre diff in some VAG's and xdrive. To say its better then quattro because quattro has open diffs front and rear makes no sense.
