The liner notes from the great album '2 Degrees East, 3 Degrees West' (1956) say he got a B.S. degree from U.C. Santa Barbara & then a Masters - a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Cal Tech (California Institute of Technology) where all his physicist major & mathematician major friends helped him. Here he says he first went to Cal Tech for his B.S. & then to Stanford for his Ph.D. & then went to U.C. Santa Barbara for what - a B.A. in Music? He was a reat great tenor player.
