That's not a dutch oven, it has no legs and the lid isn't flat with a rim to keep the coals on top. That's just an iron pot.

i have a small deep fryer that goes back 4 or 5 genirations it went from east coast to west coast in a coverd wagon with a little care it might end up on a collony on mars

Actually Dutch ovens come both ways.
The one with legs was intended to go right in a campfire.
This one was designed to hold moisture in for use in any type oven. It prevented the food from drying out.
It was great for making stew or cooking pie.
It could also be suspended over a fire.
I have both kinds and the label when I bought them new had "Dutch oven" on them. I wanted the flat bottom type for use in my oven and stove top at home. The legs might get caught and cause a spill.
