Thirty years ago Spencer Coggs was elected Chief Steward of AFSCME Local 1091. He's been fighting for working families ever since. Spencer's carried those values over the decades. When Wisconsin lagged behind on equal contracts for all during major construction, Coggs stepped in. Spencer stayed involved in the projects on a daily basis to make sure everyone in Milwaukee got a chance for these jobs. When those who lost jobs through the Tower Auto bankruptcy were about to lose health coverage, Spencer made sure they qualified for Badgercare. And when the Isaac Coggs Health Center was about to go under, Spencer stepped in and helped reorganize the board to get it back on track. When Spencer saw that children were dying in daycare vans, he passed a law to stop it. Children who had been lost like Asia Jones, would suffer no more. Working for the city of Milwaukee, Spencer created a lead abatement program to clean up the poisonous paint that careless companies had left as their negative legacy in the inner city. And Spencer Coggs is a leading force delivering jobs in Wisconsin. Spencer's created four small business incubators for our state, and recently led the effort for the Transitional Jobs Demonstration Project ... which will result in 5000 new positions statewide that provide re-entry into the workforce and could bring millions more in federal jobs funding to our great state. These are just a few of the things Spencer Coggs has accomplished. Imagine all he can do when he takes his focus on jobs and health benefits to the Lieutenant Governor's office!
Spencer Coggs is one of the Fleeing Fourteen.
