The exact opposite is the case. If a chord or scale is closed on the guitar (ie no open string) then it can be transposed anywhere by simply moving up or down the neck to the relevant root. It helps to know things from more than one position though. ;-)

on the other as far as changing keys during a song on a piano it is a lot easier has the scales repeat exactly the same way up the piano. on a guitar you have to know all the different shapes over the neck...just different instruments with different potential in my opinion.
