50 years of "Gronchi Rosa", Libya and Gaddafi

THE "GRONCHI ROSA" OF LIBYA

During this period (Spring-Summer 2011) an advertisement celebrating the 50th anniversary of the issue of the famous "Gronchi Rosa", a cornerstone of philately of the Italian Republic, is present in various Italian magazines.

This advertisement says that the "Gronchi Rosa" is the only stamp in the world which was issued and withdrawn from sale the same day.

We wish to point out that the "Gronchi Rosa" is not the only stamp in the world which was issued and withdrawn from sale the same day of issue.
There is at least another stamp issue in the world which has the same peculiarity, hence its extreme rarity on the market.

That rarity is in fact much higher than the "Gronchi Rosa". Just check how few sets are on sale in specialized philatelic websites (e.g. eBay, Delcampe, etc.).

This issue is made of 12 stamps, with high total face value. Something that further reduced the number of sets sold the morning of the issue (January 1, 1986).

The stamps are all made with the fine technique of engraving. The subject is Colonel Gaddafi, one of the most famous and controversial figures on the international scene for over 40 years.

Given the extreme peculiarity of the error present in the stamps and that there is no doubt that we are not in the presence of an error made just for speculative purposes (!!!), we believe that this 1986 issue of Libya is of great interest, and not only for the passionate collectors of Libya.

A true "Classic" of world Philately.
