An Irish melody with a Portuguese name played by a Canadian using an American guitar: brilliant. ;)
In all seriousness, this is an amazing, amazing song. Thanks to Peter Berg and company for their judicious use of this track in "Friday Night Lights". If not for that film I might not have ever discovered this track, and therefore the rest of Daniel's music.

This sounds close to the studio version, especially the keyboard arrangement--Lanois has at least one other live recording (featured on his "Cool Water" CD) that's much more raw and pared-down. I'm surprised to see this performance dated 1989, before any of recordings were released. Does anyone know what year Lanois recorded "Sonho" in the studio? I don't care about the pirate shirt, this song rules.

@brucewhitehouse The version on cool water is this one: h-uh3YKXakE . The first recording of Sonho Dourado was on Trip around 1993, which is the most famous version (Friday Night Lights for example).
