  • And on the other hand,it was a jumbled mess. It, had the potential to be phenomenal, but missed its mark, and i do not fault David Lynch. It was the bean counters at the studio. Dune is simply to deep of a story, too complex, to tell in one movie. He tried to do that, and they turned him down. Every, two bit, crappy ass, car chase filled cop movie, gets a green light for sequels, before the original is out,but the most popular science fiction novel, of all time. " its too much of a risk "

  • Here's an Idea. Tell David Lynch he can remake this film without the studio stepping on his feet, give him an Avatar budget and access to WETA Digital for the effects and then bring back Toto for the soundtrack and we could finally have his original vision for the film.

  • @joemjackson but the chance for organic life itself is much lower than 1:1 000 000 let alone intelligent life. If you just think about how many variables had to turn out to be just "right" over billions of years for intelligent life to appear let alone survive for thousands of years on Earth the chance that all those variables would have the same value elsewhere is extremely low

  • @ the anti-intellegent alien crowd -- Are they kidding? 400 billion stars in the Milky Way times 400 billion Galaxies in the Universe. Even if itelligence is 1 in a million that works out to 1.6 quadrillion alien species. And even if humans are in the top 50%, that's 800 trillion more advanced than us. And when you consider how far we've come in 200 years, there could be races millions even billions of years ahead.

  • Great movie..great song..thanks marcov..:)

  • @SaintZachary How true. I've met those who have impressive degrees, and are not thinkers. They just follow what they are told to think. This, I believe, is why the world is such a mess today. People I consider to be "poodles;" they are basically too stupid to question what they are taught, and this is why Marx is followed by so many "useful idiots," as Stalin referred to them as. Dumber than a post, can't even tie their own shoes, and yet try to tell we "proles" how to live.

  • @EBBadd1 Another thing most don't note: NO WEIRD ALIENS. They are all descendants of Earth in the book. Herbert knew that the likelihood of other "species" is unlikely. Azimov was the same way.

  • @SaintZachary I feel the same way. Too much story crammed into too short a time.

  • @Blain1971 That's a great idea, I'd love to see that happen w/Dune. One of my fav all time movies, I'd love to see it today w/masterful special effects

  • Such a great story and Brian Eno and Toto made it such a fantastic experience musically.I saw this movie as a 13 year old and bought the soundtrack on vinyl back then and I remember just staring at the inlay pictures thinking to myself how much better the story was than Star Trek and wondering why there wasn't plans for a sequel at 13 you don't know the politics of entertainment.

  • An impressive Academic record, means but one thing, that you know how to follow orders. Vision, and the drive to use it, you are BORN with. You either got it, or you don't. An MBA from a prestigious school, CAN'T give that too you.

  • I believe he tried. It was deemed to much of a risk to finance it. The same thing was said about another science fiction epic, by the studio bean counters. It was called star wars. SOMETIMES something DIFFERENT will make you a lot of money, BECAUSE it's not like ANYTHING else around. You could tell that to an entrepreneur. Jack Warner, L B Mayer, Samuel Goldwyn. They BUILT the studios, THAT requires a creative spark. Their replacements lack that power, they are babysitters.
