Welcome to Part 8 of our '2001 Retrospective', in which we discuss Confused Matthew's irate review of '2001: A Space Odyssey'.
In this section, we consider the meaning of the Star Gate sequence, and compare '2001' with other films that, while no less profound, present their meanings upfront and with none of Kubrick's philosophical intrigue.
You will find parts 1-4, and Poparena's own Animorphs series, through this link: www.youtube.com/user/poparena
Stay tuned for the final part of our discussion.
Enjoy!
Speaking of not getting to the point, how about this review. 9 parts with no end in sight?

I see a flaw with your interpretation of the star gate being a "faster than light travel sequence", because there's one problem with that:
The image turns 90 degrees. There's no reason why that would happen. I can't think of a good reason why traveling really fast would rotate the sights you see. I think that there's something else going on. I think that the rotation of the star gate is vital to the interpretation of the ending of the film.
