From May 1-11, 2008, Jerusalem's Mishkenot Sha'ananim hosted its first International Writers Festival, and some very famous local and visiting authors took part in the reading sessions, seminars, workshops, discussions, lectures, debates and more. The list of participating authors comprised a huge proportion of Israel's most respected novelists, both of the last century and the current one, including: Aharon Appelfeld, David Grossman, Yehudit Katzir, Etgar Keret, Sami Michael, Amos Oz and A.B. Yehoshua. Among guests from abroad will be Russell Banks (US), Nadine Gordimer (South Africa), Lidia Jorge (Portugal), Andrei Makine (France), Ingo Schulze (Germany) and Niall Williams (Ireland).
