Former US President Bill Clinton on December 3, 2008 lauded the pioneering work of the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc. (KCFI) at bringing distance learning education to Philippine public schools.
"I want to complement them for what they're doing and say for whatever its worth that this is the kind of thing, that others should look at replicating", Clinton said as he congratulated Rina Lopez-Bautista, KCFI head and Oscar Lopez, patriarch of the Lopez-group of companies.
As participants to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) meetings in Asia, the Knowledge Channel Foundation, with its partners, committed to provide public school teachers in the Philippines with the latest teaching resources.
Around 20,000 teachers will receive hands on training in Internet literacy and over 22,000 teachers will receive training through the programs of Knowledge Channel via cable or satellite TV. The project will cost $769,492 over a span of two years.
Increased access to technology has been shown to dramatically improve the test scores among underachieving students in RP.
"This is a gift that others can replicate with whatever scale and whatever amount of money they have", Clinton reiterated as he enticed other foundations to do the same literacy campaign in their countries.
