Elvis Presley My Happiness
Written by Betty Peterson and Borney Bergantine. This is the first song ever recorded by Elvis at Sun Records, which was previously named Memphis Recording Service. In August 1953, when he was 18 years old, Elvis recorded a $4 acetate with My Happiness on one side and Thats When Your Heartaches Begin on the other. It is reported that Elvis recorded the song for his mother, but he took the recording to the home of Edwin Leek, Jr., a classmate at Humes High School, and played it for Leek and his grandmother because Leek reportedly is the person who urged Elvis to go to Memphis Recording Service. Elvis left the demo at Leeks home and never asked for it back. The demo surfaced in 1988, and was not released until after that time. It is available on Great Performances and The King of Rock n Roll-The Complete 50s Masters.

Evening shadows make me blue
When each weary day is through
How I long to be with you
My happiness

Every day I reminisce
Dreaming of your tender kiss
Always thinking how I miss
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

A million years it seems
Have gone by since we shared our dreams
But I'll hold you again
There'll be no blue memories then

Whether skies are grey or blue
Any place on earth will do
Just as long as I'm with you
My happiness

  • Is my nolege without knowing when I say this was recorded before the well know "thats all right mamma"?

  • You are correct. He did not record That's All Right Mama until July 5, 1954, almost a year after this was recorded.

  • So haunting and beautiful. No fancy recording equipment and one guitar . The sweetness of his young voice and deep love for his mother. We are blessed to have this recording still.

  • It is amazing what people can go on to achieve once they are given an

opportunity. Can you imagine if Sam Phillips and Scotty Moore would

have listened to this song and the other song that Elvis recorded in the

summer of 1953, and then they decided not to give him an opportunity?

Elvis would have spent the rest of his life driving a truck or being an

electrician, and he never would have been able to share his beautiful

    voice with the world.

  • @Flames177 She is smiling in the 2nd photo which is the most of a smile I've seen on here. She also is smiling in the 2 phtos at 2:16 and 2:18 even though some wouldnt consider that much of a smile but it still is one.

  • Happy Birthday Elvis! You had the most beautiful voice ever. I love you and RIP.
