I did end up using one of these on a bass amp in figure-8 right up against the speaker with the -20dB pad on. Nice and warm. Solid lows. A touch lacking in the upper mids (I like small diaphragm condensers on bass cabs -- like an SM-81 -- to enhance upper mids). But definitely good with a touch of board EQ. And I didn't have time to try cardioid or omni patterns on it, which may have been more of a balanced frequency response. Next I might try bi-miking with the SM-81 and M179 together.

Very good gear review, I liked how you changed the pickup patterns, changed your vocal and guitar positions and used the same acoustic song. This gives the listener the benefit of making useful comparisons and hearing the differences in the microphones abilities. I'm seriously thinking of buying a CAD M179 now.
