  • if people loose there jobs how can they afford those cheaper goods

  • @MrSteveSpears Wrong.....Today Japan outsources most of it's manufacturing ,that's why Japan's economy sucks. Not their Protectionism

A Toyota Camry is not Made in Japan, nor are the most of it parts.Don't believe me

Sony/Panasonic/Honda/Nikon/Canon/ and about ever mayor Japanese Manufacturer outsources ,very little of it products in Japan anymore.

Our future is their future bad.

  • Protectionism is a crime against humanity. People who advocate for higher tariffs should be treated as war criminals.

  • I hate this guy, he always says that NAFTA works great. When is not the reality. More than 5 million jobs have been lost since NAFTA. More jobs will go overseas and manufacturing in the US will be dead in a few years.

Look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and you can see that the manufacturing in the US is the negative numbers in the projections. The USA is already in the road to becoming a third world country, which is a country without and industrial base.

Protectionism is the way to go.

  • @MrSteveSpears

Japan is going on their second "lost decade". Globalization and outsourcing is good for everyone involved, including American workers and the American economy. The companies that outsource the most have higher job growth on average than those companies that do not.

  • Yes, U.S. corporations benefit tremendously by outsourcing our production and then bringing the goods back to our country. But eventually, as this practice undermines our own industry, we will have become a third world country and will not be able to enjoy the standard of living that we did before the removal of Alexander Hamilton's tarrif laws. The little country of Japan is the second largest economy on the planet and they protect their industy and their workers relentlessly.

  • @the commentors.

See videos about Economics from Shanedk about why a trade deficit are NOT a bad thing.

    It'll clear things up.

  • Good point wrt Cuba sanction. But while I could certainly see someone saying trade deficit could potentially be symptomatic of some underlying problem (as I think is current the case in the US), someone saying a trade deficit is bad by itself has got to have some serious misunderstanding of the economics of trade, and is subscribing to the anti-trade protectionist pseudo-science.

  • Wow, umm... I enjoy reading Cato publications, I really do, but this channel is ridiculous. Lifting sanctions is somehow equated to granting free trade. Disliking trade deficits is equated (or strongly connected, at least) with hating free trade, which is a stretch of epic proportions. It seems like appearing reasonable while bashing Obama is the sole objective here.

Also, guys? Showing clips from Fox News in every video really destroys your credibility on the internet. Seriously.
