yeah talk about being cursed on an event. She was in my opinion the best AA gymnast in 1994, It's just too bad she did not win or medal in 1993-1996 timeframe (which was an awesome gymnastic time period), maybe even the height of women's gymnastics.

under the 93-96 scoring,that was the first code of points for AA when they took the average of the two vaults. prior to then, they only counted the best one. had that been the case, dawes would've finished on the podium at worlds in both 93 and 94. sad for her she never made top three.

back then did the 2 vaults get averaged, or did you get 2 tries and keep the best score? if so these girls were lucky, now you only get 1 try.

supposedly, she had a slight case of vertigo she'd been struggling with since the long flight to australia. the ABC commentaries said she'd been under rotating this vault in practice. if u look at her floor ex performance just before this vault, you'll see she was really questioning landings. add all that to nerves and this is what you call overcompensating.

So sad. She could have been a two time world allaround champhion and an olympic allaround champion if a few things had gone differently.
