It is so wonderful to see an entire orangutan family living happily together. In the wild, they would not stay together.
A father orangutan living in the wild would not be able to gently touch his baby, as Sugi has been able to touch little Batu. And you would never see a scene like this in the wild in which father, mother, and baby are all sitting together and the father gazes so lovingly at the mother and baby.
Tua moves away at the end of the video, which is what she usually does after giving Sugi some time to be near her and the baby.
After I stopped recording, Sugi kept himself busy with his blankets and other enrichment items until his next opportunity came to be close to Tua and the baby.
(This video was recorded through glass in low lighting and is not the absolute best quality. But the scene is so special that I wanted to share it with everyone who loves animals and zoos.)
This is a beautiful family unit.
