Broadcast (2009) In the first episode of the three-part series, Andrew Marr explores how Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection has taken on a life of its own far beyond the world of science. He argues that Darwin's theory has transformed our understanding of what it means to be human. Over the last 150 years, Darwin's ideas have challenged the need for a creator, undermined religious authority, and provided new ways of looking at the origins of human morality.

Marr's journey begins following Darwin's footsteps in Tierra del Fuego at the southernmost tip of South America where Darwin first encountered an 'uncivilised' native tribe. This began to raise questions in his mind about the origins of the human race. The answers to these questions would emerge over the next 30 years, culminating in the publication of On The Origin of Species in 1859.

Marr then traces the development of Darwin's idea in the years since then and finds a range of influences that Darwin could never have imagined: from the existential philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche to the battlefields of the First World War; from the Freudian psychoanalyst's couch to the Vatican; and from the genetic logic of kindness to an Islamic creationist's claim that Darwin is to blame for modern terrorism. Darwin's dangerous idea is as influential and challenging today as it was 150 years ago.

In this three-part series Andrew Marr explores how Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection has taken on a life of its own far beyond the world of science. He discovers something surprising about his own evolutionary history as he explores Darwin's impact on politics and society.

  • Dangerous only to Creationists and Televangelists. lol suckers...

  • But it's NOT Darwin's Dangerous Idea. It's Nature's Dangerous Idea. Darwin only described it. It is idiotic t think that without Darwin there would be no evolution.

And Harun Yahya is a complete retard. He can't even distinguish fishing flies from real flies.

  • @jaliparichell I'll believe scientific facts over a book of fairy tales any day.

  • 7mn of this "real" documentary and you can no more believe in this theory of evolution after.

    watch?v=l3T3bO_Oge4

  • @jaliparichell why the hell can't God be smart enough to use his own designed natural laws to create life? You believe in a God so devoid of intelligence that he has to violate his own physical laws to create life. That's like deleting an entire paragraph because you mispelled the first word when a simple click of the mouse will suffice. Your God, not particularly intelligent and bereft of forsight. Now. god who used evolution, that's a smart divine being.

  • does this vid feature dan dennet? cuz that is the title of one of his books

  • @jaliparichell You can't breed a monkey with a human because we aren't evolved from monkeys. We are evolved from apes. The reason humans & apes can't breed is because humans have 1 less pair of chromosomes. Proof we aren't related? No,quite the contrary. We can trace the DNA back to the point where 2 of our sets fused (chromosome #2) This is where we split from apes & technically became a diff species. There is a clear map of our origins now,you just have to look at it & not hide from the proof.

  • Thanks for the video. It's very wonderful! Darwin is a liar, stupid liar. How can there be a law w/o a Lawmaker? How can there be order in nature w/o the Regulator? How can there be an idea without a Thinker? How can there be a result w/o a Cause? How can there be a creation w/o a Creator? My challenge to the Evolutionists: Try breeding a monkey and a human. What do you think will be the result? NOTHING. Why? Simple. Human ignorance & arrogance can't change God's Law. God surely exists. Aju!

  • I wish everyone could watch this and say "Wow..that was interesting, thanks for posting" instead of posting shitty hateful statements..just like justjulie7..We are all going to have diffferent opinions based on religin and thoughts..that is guaranteed..but can we not all just be nice and civil about it??
