@digitalrebelxti The late e39 5 series has been rated by consumer reports as very reliable. It was even picked as the car of the year in 2002. Just with every car, treat it well and it will last.
@BabkenBMW i think people mistake reliability with cost of repair, i want a bmw but i know if something goes wrong i'll need to get the part special ordered, it may be alot harder to find, but hey maybe i'm wrong, i really want this exact model i found one for 5500 with only 97000 kilometres, which would convert to only about 55-60000 miles, in your opinion is this deal to good to be true or should i jump on it.
I can't just help laughing at those hopeless people who state confidently about BMW being unreliable. Personally I own a 1997 523i and it's more than reliable. And if BMW had been unreliable their sales volume wouldn't have increased year on year.
Infinitis are great. I would not, however, go for an I35, which is based on the 1995 Maxima chassis. It's smooth and reliable, but handles like an economy car.
The G35 is much closer to the E39 in all respects- size, power, handling, ride. And still, it's not as solid. It rides rougher and bouncier. The chassis has a tendency to snap-oversteer at about 8/10s. It's not as balanced or refined as the BMW. But it is a lot closer to the benchmark than an I35. Reliability is great and repairs cheap.
3:42 - it's 231 hp NOT 225 ;)

It depends on what you want. Personally I don't regret getting my car. And 97000km is nothing for a BMW engine.
