lyrics to; Kark the Herold Angel & Angel we have heard on high

Hark the herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled"
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
"Christ is born in Bethlehem"
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Christ by highest heav'n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord!
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Hail the heav'n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris'n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
"Glory to the newborn King!"

Sweetly singing o'er the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Why your joyous strains prolong
What the gladsome tidings be,
Which inspire your heavenly song?
|: Gloria, In Excelsis Deo :|

3) Come to Bethlehem and see,
Him whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord the newborn king.
|: Gloria, In Excelsis Deo :|

Whom the choirs of angels praise
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

  • @trevor462 Let me revise my above comment. To be sure, the first few minutes were "Angels We Have Heard on High," as posted. However, the remainder of the selection consisted of a cowboy music version of "Hark he Herald Angels Sing." All very well, I'm sure; Our Lord did not command us to excercise good taste.

  • "...and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

"And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.'" And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, " Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

  • And now, the lyrics...

  • This is assuredly not "Angels We Have Heard on High." And unless the Choir of Westminster has gone country/western, that, too, is untrue.

  • From 3 minutes into this video this is NOT the Choir of Westminster Cathedral, London, England. Good grief - whoever posted this gave it a totally MISLEADING TITLE.

But I guess that's the freewheeling, who-gives-a-****, anti-professional spirit of YouTube.

I'm a big fan of YouTube - whatever did we do without it? - but this is RIDICULOUS.

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. Tonight (April 10), I attended a Lent service at my church. We sang Joyous Light of Heavenly Glory as our opening hymn. It is a 3rd Century Greek hymn, paraphrased by Marty Haugen. He also composed the tune, JOYOUS LIGHT. It is #561 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

  • meglio della cappella sistina

  • Who sings the latter "Hark the herald angels sing"? Does anyone know??
