  • Wow! I want to see this film. Heartstoppingly beautiful.

Please, can you tell us who that lovely soprano is?

May Night is one of the world's great masterpieces, here sung by a master. Levko is such a gorgeous role.

Thank you so much for posting this.

  • I don't know who is this soprano (mezzo), but Sergey Yakovlevich recorded "May Night" with Veronika Ivanovna Borisenko

  • Yes, mezzo. Sorry.

I know the Lemeshev recording. There are two more recordings of May Night that I'm aware of, too. One with Golovanov, and one with Fedoseyev.

Can you kindly tell me about this film? Is there much more of Lemeshev in it? Again, thanks so much for posting this.

  • There is recording with Tchistyakov and Bolshoi soloists also :)

This movie is "Muzykalnaya istoriya" ("The music story" may be english version of its title). Lemeshev song also Lensky and some songs in this movie.

  • he was the nelson eddy of communist russia

  • CurzonRoad-Glad that you enjoyed it Doug. This very much pleases me as he is my all time favourite Russian Tenor.

  • Ditto.... thanks to kornevgen for this post, and to Paulo for sending my way! Wonderful!

  • Один из лучших теноров всех времен!

    Действитильно великолепно. Спасйбо!

[If I remember correctly, this film was released in the United States in 1940. I believe it was called "A Musical Story." If it is still around, it is rare. One might check the Bel Canto Society.] I'll take a look and see what I can find, and post the info. if I find it.
