Quest Couch discusses the LumiQuest FXtra, a compact gel holder for shoe-mount flashes. The FXtra facilitates the quick installation and removal of colored gels. Eight Rosco gels are included: CTO, ½ CTO, ¼ CTO, Plus Green, ½ Plus Green, Sky Blue, Canary Yellow and Fire Red in the integrated storage pouch. FXtra is sized to use with most popular flashes and the gel pocket accommodates both Rosco and Lee gel samples. Any LumiQuest accessory can be attached while FXtra is in place allowing you to colorize the light while using a variety of light modifiers.

  • With the FXtra in place you won't be able to pull out the catch light card, it surrounds the flashhead from top to bottom.

  • How does the gel holder attach onto the flash?

  • It comes with self adhesive velcro, or you can use the optional Cinch Strap...a non adhesive alternative

  • Actually, they are largely designed for different purposes. The FX has an assortment of theatrical gels, with no particular photographic application. The FXtra comes with a few theatrical gels and even more with photographic applications. In addition the FXtra is sized to accommodate the Lee and Rosco sample gel packs as well as the new Strobist Collection.

  • Sadly, this video is broken at 1:03 -- it stalls the player.

  • I am not having that problem when I watch. I will see if there are any suggestions on why you are having this issue.

  • is there anyway I can pull out the catch light card of a flash?

  • I just ordered mines should be getting within the next 2 weeks exited and cnt wait to try it out. I also ordered the 80-20 but if i should have ordered the promax system witch suits me best.

  • Thanks for the video ! This product seems quite interesting, especially for those who already have other LumiQuest accessories.

From the video, I understand that the pocket is tight fit : does this mean you will only be able to use one gel at a time, or can you use 2 or 3 gels whithout having to trim the edges ?

  • Is this small version better than the FX LQ-111

  • Yeah, it works for me now too. I'll put it down to a browser glitch.

And the FXtra is a very useful product. I have two of them for my two Pentax flashes.

  • This video works fine for me. Looks like a useful product.
