  • Note to Belated Commission: You're not too bright, are you? As a matter of fact I've found that most people do need this stuff explained to them and if you read most of the comments, most people are quite thankful that someone intelligent enough exists to do so.

  • The problem with that is that such reviews are a dime a dozen. They are so common that the very thought of them makes one yawn. Art is not just about technique; that is only one half of what makes it work; the other half is what is being communicated and those are always ideas. Every film says "something," and it is a naive, techno-gadgety American attitude to believe that art is just about which way the brush stroke is applied. And no these are not just projections; they are in the film.

  • This is probably the single best movie review of anything I've ever seen.

  • Thanks for the compliments. Glad you liked it.

  • @kaaghalaa

Agree. Though they still let him in after failing to "correct" his wife. :)

  • @rehzon actually, I thought it meant that after he died, he 'joined' them

  • @kaaghalaa

So does Jack in the old pic at the end mean he was Reincarnated from that time?

  • Oh God Ebert...yes there are certain universal archetypes that pertain throughout ancient cultures that probably feed, as per Jung, into the collective concious of humanity i.e personifications of death, death and life portrayed as a woman representing a cycle between birth and death etc But those familair with this don't need it explained and those that don't will just find the review tedious. Why didn't you mention Diane Arbus and the use of her imagery as inspiration for the twins?

  • he forgets to mention the 3 moon goddess. the child mother and the crone.

  • @TheLogicJunkie check out Rob Ager's reviews

  • I really liked this review, and I don't it's over-analysis. Every point seems in line with what an obsessive filmmaker like Kubrick would have intended.

  • what sort of pot is this guy smoking....blah de blah de blah,
