After reading "Cosmic Trigger", I'm leaning towards the idea that these are "Extraterrestrials" from Sirius. I think they have always been here with us, and they are what people think of as "Demons", or Djinns. There could be more than one type of entity, but these have all the characteristics of Sirius (I think that's where Jesus was from, too). The "star" led them to him, and it stopped over the manger. The Gnostics believe this, I'm pretty sure, but not positive. Something about Sirius...
