  • The beginning of this piece, with its horn calls and awakening of life, is so wonderful.

  • omg, I love this piiece. What a great selection of Mahler's symphonies.

  • @haeronthegreat Oh my god you're right! That sounds like "non je ne regrette rion" like note for note! Even the pulsating rhythm in the background is still there. Makes you think of Miss Piaf had Mahler in her mind at all.

  • 3:50 - Edith Piaf?

  • I'm exploding of joy because in two weeks I'm going to hear The Concertgebouw Orchestra directed by Pierre Boulez playing this mangificent piece! :D

  • I always think of Haydn plus Halloween when I hear this Nachtmusic. So full of ghouls goblins.

  • @Wahpinga Correction: Lenny was, at the very least, bi-sexual, as he was married and had three kids. Though it may be true that his preferences were gay rather than traditionally straight, his conducting style had nothing to do with his sexual orientation. That's how he conducted: he was super-charged while re-introducing Mahler to a Viennese orchestra and public that had rejected his music because he was a Jew. The Wieners loved Lenny.

  • Bernstein was flamboyantly gay. So gay that it's distracting, really.

  • That is Viennese oboe! What's the problem??? This is its sound.

  • @gitrrdone no, but the orchestra and an orchestra of Vienna particular, with special horns, timpani skins of goats, clarinets and bassoons with different fingerings, and oboe d'amore.
