There is nothing like people
to teach you life,
to really trip on true joy,
ya gotta know strife.
The years and the miles,
times of new eyes.
A man will always age,
no matter how he tries.
There is nothing like a street,
learn how sad it is.
Winos stumbling along,
begging for some change.
Tired old ladies mumble,
smoke a cigarette,
waiting, ever waiting on,
waiting around for death.
And the trippers, mad ones,
youth burning in their eyes,
crazily hunting out the night,
Prostitutes with tired glances,
junkies taking a fall,
full of sorrow and despair,
i thrive to know them all.
The years and the miles,
i see with sad eyes.
A man will always grow old,
no matter how he tries.
There is nothing like life
to teach you spite.
To truly trip on happiness,
ya gotta know strife.

  • I was just talking about this with my buddy after a friend's wife died about 4 or 5 months ago... I was telling him to never hide from your pain, don't fight it trying to bury it, it will only eat you alive. Instead, immerse yourself in your pain and allow yourself to feel the anguish of grieving. It's only when you get in touch with the reality of the low points in life, and having experienced them that you can truly appreciate the good times. We need obstacles to appreciate the journey.

  • Very nice poem well recorded...Thank you and a best wishes for the New year 2011!
