@dannyinaus it's an australian song but the Irish made it better..

Wow. You've proven that on the internet, and yet many of you choose to jump in with whatever you think you know, rather than doing a simple web search! From Wikipedia: Slim Dusty's 1957 hit "A Pub With No Beer" was the biggest-selling record by an Australian to that time, the first Australian single to go gold...The "Pub with No Beer" is a real place, in Taylors Arm, not far from Kempsey where Slim was born...In 1959 and 1960 Dutch and German cover versions of the song became number one hits

beer with no pub is better than pub with no beer :)

THEY ALSO SANG "THE BAND PLAYED WALTZING MATILDA",WRITTEN BY ERIC BOGLE,A SCOTSMAN,AND MANY OTHERS
As an Irish kid growing up in California, I grew up with this song but never really understood its meaning. As an adult, I dig this song more than most of the drinking songs I associate with my family. It's a song left over from WWII, when a group of American soldiers drank every drop of beer an Australian pub had. An Irishman was inspired to write. The rest is history. what a great tune.
