All these comments about 'tramps' vs 'ladies'--geez. When will the human race grow up... She is a healer, bound by rules, or so she thinks. Power = responsibility, and she can't use the powers for herself. But the story later points out that it's possible to create anew, and that the rules are ultimately about her personal choices. She doesn't have to give up who she is, and neither does he.

Why doesn't she explain. Tell him who she is and that she will lose her gifts to go out. Why are the spices so possessive. That is not love, it is control. Compared to the blonde egocentric modern female she is a goddess.
