Otello being one of my favorites operas I have never seen this movie (the one I treasure is the beautiful 1993 ROH production with Plácido Domingo and Kiri Te Kanawa). Vickers and Freni are absolutely wonderful and the Karajan's directing left me speechless. Well, I'll buy it without waiting ! Thank you so much for this beautiful discovery! Warm regards.

This is a movie version of Otello with Vickers, Freni, Glossop and Karajan conducting. Google it and it should come up.

I think the one I knew of was taken in the UN. I don't think I have seen their Met performance yet.

!!HERMOSO, PERFECTO!!!Jon Vicker, !que gran Otello!,en voz, interpretación, caracterización, en todo. Mirella Freni, igualmente, gran Desdemona en todo. (Mucho mejor que cuando cantó ,esta aria con P. Domingo¿será la compañía?.). La puesta en escena, también ,es perfecta lo transporta a uno, ,verdaderamente, a la época de los sucesos. Quel luxe ! John Vickers est le roi de tous les OTellos. Mirella Freni, la plus belle et touchante Desdemona comme il n y en a plus hélas. J'essaie de voir qui est en ce moment l'exemple à prendre ?
