This is for the first time guitar players. I discuss how to properly hold the guitar, how to hold your neck, how a tuner works, choosing the proper guitar, and choosing the proper guitar pick. This is basic guitar foundations part 1.

  • i always heard holding the pick at a 45 degree angle...

  • Perhaps for the angle of attack, but not in comparison to your thumb. In other words, you should hold the pick at a 90 degree angle from your thumb, but strum with a 45 degree angle upward.

  • I could not for the life of me play an "F" chord, even after watching a tutorial on it. After watching this, I can now play it perfectly. The whole "credit card" thing... works like a charm. Thanks. I was definitely holding it wrong. Thank God I'm only 4 months in and I can change the habit relatively easily.

  • Just something I've noticed a lot with most guitar lesson people, is that they never mention how you need to develop those calluses. I think it would help out with some of those beginners who are having trouble with endurance really. Give your fingers a week, even three days, and you will notice a BIG difference in tightening those strings up to avoid vibrations and, well, pain. Or just play till your fingers bleed, your choice, but not recommended. Bragging rights I guess?

  • This is good stuff, helped me a lot.

  • theres a lot of good info in here

  • cool man nice points there i bet this video would help out alot of ppl

  • How much does thumb movement matter? I've been playing the 1st 4 frets on a small wooden acoustic and I keep my thumb in the middle neck area and move my hand up and down to move to different strings. Should I move my thumb up and down while doing this?
