  • yes, the Michigan-Iowa series really was not much of a contest until Hayden Fry took over at Iowa. Before that, the Hawkeyes were just one of the "little 8" that Michigan and Ohio State beat up on before facing each other for the Big Ten title.

I was attending the Dearborn campus of UM in 1983 and had a season ticket to the games in Ann Arbor, so I was at this game and remember it well.

  • I live in Dearborn. Small world.

  • Does Bo have a moustache in this video?

  • No. That's Hayden Fry.

  • Good, old-fashioned Big 10 street brawl. This was probably the game that ignited the Michigan-Iowa rivalry throughout the 80's. It didn't hurt that Bo and Hayden Fry were on opposite sidelines.

Check out around 9:30, the current University of AZ head FB coach is in tears.

  • Very impressive. Yes, the Iowa player crying at the end is Mike Stoops.

I wanted to see how long it would take before someone would notice. Didn't take as long as I thought.

  • Sim Nelson.

  • It seems like whenever Michigan and Iowa play eachother, the game is close, and it seems like the Wolverines usualyl find a way to pull it out, like they did with this 16-13 win.

    Go Blue!

  • Oh, thanks, WH

  • Several Iowa vs. Michigan battles settled by field goals:

    1981: Iowa 9, Michigan 7

    1983: Michigan 16, Iowa 13

    1985: Iowa 12, Michigan 10

    1986: Michigan 20, Iowa 17
