3D effects are brand new to Flash CS4, with the introduction of the concept of z-space inside of the Flash authoring tool. In this lesson we learn how to use the new 3D Rotation and 3D Transformation tools to achieve stunning 3-dimensional special effects in our Flash movies. This is extracted from Rs online workshop: http://www.richmediainstitute.com/ondemand/flashcs4specialeffects

  • right, maybe you can help. ive searched EVERYWHERE for info on how to create a motion tween of a 3d rotation of something that rotates in only ONE axis. nobody seems to show on their videos how to do it.

ie: imagine a windmill sail which has perspective and then rotates around itself. everytime i try to do it and create a tween it starts animating the sails in all kinds of axis not in the ONE axis i want it to.

    Can anyone help?

  • Not entirely sure what you're asking, but from what it sounds like, you need to create multiple keyframes. That is, make a keyframe at roughly 170 degrees of rotation, another at 200, and then a final keyframe at 360. That is, you need to guide Flash around the 360 -- if your start and end have the same rotation, then how is Flash going to know to rotate it properly? Make sense?

  • Swish Max 3 has up to 3000 effects and has more power then Flash CS4 and also very lite.

  • Not entirely sure where you're going with this comment, but if you like Swish, go for it. Flash CS4 also has a bunch of powers (and is, in fact, far more powerful than Swish, for a variety of reasons), and if you need to learn those, then you can watch this video. If you want to learn Swish, then this video isn't really for you.

  • @Nexstarcrazyness I remember getting it to work but I haven't had to use this function since so I'm not sure I remember what i did. I have a feeling I applied rotation first then used the 3d tool to get the perspective i wanted and that kept the rotation in the one plane. Thanks for your response though

Basically what i'm saying and what you're saying is that applying local co-ordinates to the MC would make it super easy to animate using AS3 rather the timeline which as of cs5 still only shows global x,y,z. Makes me wonder why it so easy to do this in 3dsmax and maya.

  • Thanks for your help Rich, I ended up getting it sorted but only after the help of my college tutor. i can't believe there appears to be no tutorials on the web for this specific thing.

thanks again for getting back to me
