In other words, you might not see the point in going to Mars (however many people do). That's not why the government funds nasa. They fund NASA because they have an extensive track record of providing the world with some of the most important advances in technology whether it was designed to go find life on mars or to detect cancer in an MRI machine. Technology is technology no matter what the or original intent was, and NASA delivers time after time. That's worth every penny. And then some

NASA's budget is less than one half of one percent of the federal budget. The governed ALREADY funds programs that help the poor, and you know what it does? It hurts them. They become dependent on the help, and it prevents them from ever helping themselves. At the same time, NASA gets a fraction of what the poor get, and in return, the world gets something. Funding NASA is also funding the most brilliant scientists and inventors in the world. No matter what toys they play with.

You obviously haven't taken a look at the budget. You imply that the money spent on NASA would be better spent helping the poor. Here is what the 2012 US federal budget looks like :

    All numbers in billions

    NASA - 17.7

Human services - 84.2 (homeless shelters, soup kitchens, etc)

Housing & Urban Development - 47.9 (section 8 housing for the poor)

What is your return on investment?

NASA - loads and loads and loads of technological advancements.

    Other - none.

    Where should NASA's money go?

The irony of you saying that with your funny broken English... All I was saying was that the funds could be used for something which actually helps the people in America or the world, you can't pretend like America doesn't have slums while NASA blows billions in space, that's all I was saying
