  • Kevin Brownlow is a hero to film. If he doesn't win some kind of special Oscar, it will be a travesty.

  • I hope illicit copies of the full version circulate someday on DVD, with Carl Davis' score. Coppola is indeed doing a huge disservice to cinema fans.

  • I just happen to own both VHS tapes of Napoleon, which my parents got for $2 at a yard sale many years ago. I will certainly cherish them.

  • This just in - the San Francisco Silent Film Festival is present Brownlow's compete restoration at the Oakland Paramount Theatre in March 2012. Carl Davis will personally conduct the 46-piece East Bay Oakland Symphony.

  • The complete 5 1/2 hour version will be screening with Carl Davis conducting @ the Paramount in Oakland in March 2012!

  • Wonderful interview. Kevin Brownlow is indeed a hero to all of us who are dedicated to the preservation and restoration of films. Long may he live.

  • well, dreams come true... he did!

  • Where did you get this interview?

  • Abel Gance is the inspiration for the movie project I'm working on L'Empereur, it takes place in the contemporary Bronx but it breathes with the spirit of Abel's 1927 Napoleon

  • I'm grateful every day for what Brownlow did for us all. Napoleon is o ne of my favorite movies, so I will always owe him more than I can say. Bravo! And thank you! And thanks for posting this vid.

  • @U2berox Agreed. What he has done to save so many films has made him the greatest historian of our time

  • Recently rewatched Brownlow's version, but I've heard they're coming out with a new DVD for it with the Carl Davis score? Hope so.
