Virginia I. Dick Bedell

Virginia I. Dick Bedell, of Topeka, KS died Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Aldersgate Village. Virginia was born June 7, 1925 in Chanute, KS to John and Lola V. Hinds. She is survived by her beloved daughters Patty Dick of Topeka and Rev. Debby Dick of Humboldt, KS, sister Joan Day (Joseph), Ooltewah, TN, brother Lyle D. Hinds (Isolde), Eugene, OR, nephews David and Doug Fluegel, TN, nieces Monika Barry and Erica Widdot, OR and her feline companion CeCe. She graduated from Chanute High School and moved to Topeka in 1938. Virginia worked at the Flemings Co. until 1949 when she became a full-time mother and homemaker. She worked for Topeka Public Schools in the Food Service department as a bookkeeper from 1966-1983. She volunteered at Stormont-Vail Hospital gift shop for several years. She was an avid supporter of her daughter's softball and basketball teams where she rarely missed a game. She was a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher at Oakland United Methodist Church (where she was a member), and a room mother at Oakland Grade School. Virginia was always present at anything that concerned her daughters. Virginia was married to Melvern K. Dick on April 8, 1945 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1973. Virginia married Riley Bedell on May 12, 1976 in Topeka. He died November 30, 1980. Cremation is planned and a celebration of life service will be held Friday, February 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakland United Methodist Church.
