This is the first deadlift workout I've done since I injured my back three weeks ago. I'm doing a deadlift program designed by Magnusson/Ortmayer, but have modified it to remove the set of high-rep deads at the end. High-rep deads always seem to lead to injury for me. Instead, I added a few sets of snatch pulls off of blocks to help my speed off the floor.

My percentages are based off of a theoretical max of 675. I weighed 257 lb. the morning of this workout.

My training log is located at http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=118490371

  • do you squeeze your glutes while u bring the weight up?

  • @SmexyPC Of course.

  • Is that not bad for you to drop the weight inbetween each rep like that?

  • @alrefai10 Why would it be bad?

  • @Blenderate Why? Isn't it called a 'dead lift' because the weight lifting motion gets killed by slamming the weight on the floor!

  • @Econ1260MetZRoberto That's an argument for technique based on semantics. Technique should be based on achieving desired goals, not meeting some arbitrary definition of "correct". There are multiple valid ways to perform the deadlift, each with their own benefits and drawbacks.

  • nice man!, i read your argument about dropping the weight, i think it depends on your goals tbh. if you wanna create explosiveness and speed you should come down with the weight and then straight back up. if you want just raw power dropping the weight is just fine.

  • @Econ1260MetZRoberto the deadlift is only the lift part... infact having a slow negative with the deadlift can be dangerous for the back

  • how the fuck do you keep hold of that weight with double over hand oh my days

  • WOW!YOUR LEGS ARE DOPE!DO U GET COMMENTS FROM GIRLS FOR THESE? :)(asking how they get them too :P )

  • DOH grip much respect.

  • Glad im not the only one that trains with an overhand grip...nice work dude. Thats a lot of grip strength man. Awesome!

  • hook grip?

  • blenderate have u tried to deadlift on weigthlifting olympic shoes/?how was it?i say cause u could add some leg power with the shoes n u seem to have plenty :)

  • @Econ1260MetZRoberto It's called a deadlift because the weight is "dead" on the floor when you pick it up...meaning there is no momentum to help lift the weight with. Nothing good happens in the negative phase of the exercise so it is just fine to lower it very quickly or even drop it.

  • Holy sit dem legss
