That was one one of the worst rescues I've ever seen. They were very quick, but lifting the car and just dropping it back down like they did to turn it back over can paralyze or kill a driver who has suffered a neck injury. Thank god rescuers are (usually) trained better today.

I did enjoy reading Dr Steve Olvey's comments on this accident in his book "Rapid Response", and in particular the interference from concerned crew members and onlookers, where he was concerned that flipping the vehicle over may have broken the driver's neck...
The book is a fascinating read, for anybody out there who is interested in what guys like Olvey, Trammell, Bock, Hanna et al did for safety in Indycar/Champcar.

@illicitstill It doesn't have anything to do with it being in Arizona. It's just that we've gotten a lot smarter about driver safety in the 30+ years since the accident

Really wierd crash, and what a luck!! Rescue teams have improved a lot since 1980! it´s was comom back the car on "4" wheels until 1994, we dont see it anymore´, nice footage tks for upload!
